World Development Indicators

GDP per capita, PPP, by country

Compare output per person adjusted using purchasing power parities.

What it measures

GDP per capita at purchasing power parity divides a territory’s economic output by its population and converts it into current international dollars using PPP conversion factors. PPPs adjust for differences in price levels to improve comparisons of the volume of goods and services. Per capita is an accounting average: it is not average pay, household disposable income or the amount received by each person.

How to interpret it

A higher value indicates more output per resident valued at PPP in that year. Because the series uses current international dollars, changes over time are not equivalent to real economic growth.
