A personal project to
understand your money
Metaphai began with a simple question: why does no one in Spain teach us the basics about taxes, payslips or personal finance?
Who is behind it?
I am a scientist by training, with a PhD in optical engineering, and a biomedical researcher. My day-to-day work takes place among laboratories and data, not tax spreadsheets.
But, like anyone who works and pays taxes in Spain, there came a time when I needed to understand what was deducted from my payslip, what I could receive if I became unemployed, or how much tax I would have to pay on an inheritance. I discovered that finding this information clearly, up to date and free of charge was surprisingly difficult.
So I built it myself.
“In Spain we learn mathematics, history and literature, but nobody explains how personal income tax works, what a taxable base is or what a mortgage really costs us. That is what I am trying to change with Metaphai.”
What is Metaphai?
MetaphAI brings together practical calculators for Spain, international public data and educational games for exploring, comparing and learning with real figures.
The project started as a personal experiment to learn web development and taxation at the same time. It has gradually grown into something I hope will be useful to anyone who wants to understand their financial situation better.
In the long term, the aim is for the website to support itself financially, mainly through non-intrusive advertising and collaborations with relevant financial services, so that it can continue to be maintained and improved.
Our principles
An important notice
Metaphai is a guidance tool, not a tax or legal advisory service. Results are estimates based on current general rules and may not reflect particular or complex tax situations.
For important decisions such as a tax return, inheritance or home purchase, we always recommend consulting a certified tax manager or adviser.
